If, like me, you work in a fast paced environment where emails are pinging, phones are ringing and Taylor Swift’s newest album is on repeat it’s little wonder you rarely leave your desk. What’s the need? You have it all right there!
Your days turn into weeks and your weeks turn into months all in a blur of emails, meetings and reports. It’s too easy to skip your lunch break altogether. By the time you get home you’re too tired to do much more than watch Corrie and with your weekends reserved for lie-ins the gym becomes a distant dream.
Suddenly your holiday is fast approaching and your mind is filled with terror when you realise you have to wear a bathing suit in a few weeks! This was me, until I discovered the lunchtime work out.
It not only gives me my weekend and evenings back; it also helped me shed the pounds for my holiday in Jamaica where a bikini is all you wear – 24/7. The first session is the hardest, I still remember my first Bodycombat class. At first I was dreading it, walking down Oxford Street during the busy lunch hour rush dressed in Lycra and pink Nike trainers, weaving through tourists. But 45 minutes later I left feeling exhilarated, refreshed, renewed. Even to a degree, empowered.
Most importantly the moment I hit my desk I felt a new lease of life and pushed through my emails and tasks at full speed! The class allowed me to switch off for a moment; it gave me 45mins of high intensity, stress relief.
According to recent studies if you spend 30-60 mins exercising over lunch you will be 15% more productive. This will not only keep the boss happy but means even with an hour out of the office you still manage to cross off the majority of your never ending to do list.
Bodycombat might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but whether you’re a spin seeker or yoga fan there is a class for you… here are five classes perfect for a quick and effective lunchtime workout:
