Blogging has become an integral part of today’s society and we now look to bloggers for news, inspiration, recipes, travel stories and more. Account Exec Laura Gale caught up with Faya, full time blogger of Fitness on Toast for an insight into the wonderful world of blogging.
Faya is a fitness blogger based in London’s West End and when she isn’t busy interviewing the likes of Victoria Pendleton and Elle Macpherson or winning the Cosmopolitan Lifestyle Blogger Award, she is a fitness trainer. Read our interview with Faya below…
Laura: Why did you choose a health and fitness angle for your blog?
Faya: When I first started the blog it was a way to communicate and share my passion for all things healthy; fitness, nutrition, fashion, informative workouts and active travel.
Laura: What do you like the most about being a blogger?
Faya: I’m not sure there is one thing, so much as a combination of a few things. I love the creative outlet it gives me – writing posts, planning shoots, styling looks etc. The blog has taken me on some of the greatest adventures I’ve ever had, as well as working with and meting some incredibly inspiring people.
Laura: What do you like the least about being a blogger?
Faya: Touch wood, so far I haven’t come across any major downside to blogging. I guess that there’s truly never any time ‘off’ in the sense that you’re always connected, always keen to take the opportunity around you to do something creative! You drive your own work forward; it’s not a 9-5 job but I love that!
Laura: If you could interview anyone for your blog, who would it be and why?
Faya: If I could interview anyone it would probably be someone like Usain Bolt I think – athletic AND comic genius rolled into one interview.
Laura: What is your favourite blog post?
Faya: My favourite blog post is a recent one from Capri (Italy) about the benefits of mediation – we shot some images in the most stunning, dream-like location, which totally complemented the topic!
Laura: Do you follow any other blogs?
Faya: Most definitely – whilst I look at all sorts of blogs all the time (just to see what sort of things people are up to!), I like to focus on fashion blogs. One of my absolute favourites is the TheBlondeSalad. The magazine-quality is just so inspirational.
Laura: Congratulations for winning the Cosmo Awards – how was the evening?
Faya: Thank you, the Cosmo evening was super special to me. I never expected to win the Lifestyle Blog award. I think at the end of the day, it’s just little old me sat by my computer writing down my thoughts, never really knowing if they mean anything to anyone, so to get a thumbs up from such a prestigious publication, and those who voted for me, is a real honour.
Laura: When did you start to take an interest in fitness?
Faya: I’ve always been really into fitness. I grew up in Sweden and participated in practically every sport available to me; tennis, badminton, basketball, dancing. My favourite was always horse-riding. My family used to grow their own vegetables in the garden so I think overall I grew up being quite exercise and nutrition conscious without really realising it!
Laura: What is your must have fashion item?
Faya: A great pair of trainers. You stand on your feet all day and I think feet are so neglected. I suggest anyone who is starting sports should have a proper run assessment. Asics flagship store on Oxford street do an amazing one, as in my post here
